Osborne recently revealed on LinkedIn that he was leaving Jagex after fifteen years of content editing, narrative design, and lead design. It’s a choice he made, as he describes, to “test [his] experience in the rest of the industry.” Osborne is leaving Jagex and going straight into Square Enix on the publishing side, as a Senior Designer. He’ll be overseeing “some fantastic games,” beginning with Outriders.

This reveal led Redditor FatNWackyRS to reach out to r/Outriders with a simple message about Mod Osborne, describing him as the “warm, friendly, “Dad” face at Jagex.” FatNWackyRS describes everything that Osborne has done for the community over the years, including some clips, such as appearing as Mod Elfborne to promote Prifddinas (an Elf City in Runescape), joining livestreams, and helping alongside the company’s vision.

While some gamers or communities would be upset about losing a recognizable company face, FatNWackyRS invited other Runescape players to share their experiences. One commenter, notably, says they feel like they’ve both won and lost, as someone who plays both Runescape and Outriders. Others were excited at this news, even those who had never interacted with Osborne before, thanks to this glowing endorsement by a member of the Runescape community.

Indeed, exactly what will happen on his side of the Outriders fence remains to be seen, but fans know a lot of good things are coming to the game. Outriders’ Worldslayer expansion is set to be revealed sometime this spring and is set to release for this year, and beyond that, People Can Fly has a ton of other projects in the work—including another game with Square Enix. If Osborne will be involved with that, though, remains to be seen.

FatNWackyRS ends his post with a simple, heartwarming message for Osborne, should he happen to see it: A thank you for all he has done for Runescape and warm wishes for his time at Square Enix. “We love you, will miss you, and wish you the most enormous of good fortunes in all your thrilling future endeavors to come with Square Enix,” the Redditor wrote on behalf of the RS community.

Outriders is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
